There are many reasons summer is our favorite season, but topping the list is outdoor entertaining. From casual backyard barbecues to well thought out dinner parties under dim lighting from tree-strung lights, nothing beats a summer evening with friends and family.
No matter what type of event you are throwing, there is simply no such thing as overdoing it when it comes to flowers. The options truly are endless when it comes to floral arrangements. Choose your favorite flowers (whether you are creating the arrangements yourself or leaving it to a professional) and let the flowers steer you in the direction you want to go for the event. We love mixing topiaries in to a tablescape to create a layered design. After selecting your arrangements, everything else will fall into place regarding your table setting.
When working on your tablescape set up, a tip we suggest to elevate the feel of the party is to try adding in place cards. Place cards do not have to be only for formal events; even for a casual gathering they show that you put thought into the evening. They also provide another outlet to add in a personal touch. You can find basic templates online and keep them on hand for whenever you have a party coming up. It’s an added bonus if you or a friend is skilled in calligraphy.
Another way to create an intimate feel is through lighting. There is nothing wrong with mixing types of lighting. If you have outdoor fixtures use them but do not let that hold you back from adding in candles. The love is in the details and it will not go unnoticed by your guests. However, if you do not have fixed lighting outside, add in candles and tailor your concept to an intimate setting.
The most important tip of all is to not overthink it. The beauty of summer entertaining is that it is meant to be relaxed and is best enjoyed outdoors. Whatever design elements you choose will be appreciated and accentuate the atmosphere.
